There are a LOT of little details that go into OUR Valve Jobs.  So here is a full description of everything we include in our basic, and performance valve jobs.          As you can see....  It's NOT just a "Slam Together" Job.

Disassemble, Clean Head(s) & Parts.     

Acquire Customer Data, & Specs. For Application.

Work Up A Preliminary Estimate.

Disassemble Head(s).

Valves Go Into A Stick With Holes, To Keep Them In Order.

Springs, Retainers, & Valve Locks Go Into Tumbler With Solvents.

Scrape Off Gasket Material. Look Head(s) Over For Any Major Repairs. (Make Notes As Nec.)                                                 

Put Heads Into Hot or Cold Tank For Overnight Soaking.

Mic. Valve Stems For Wear.

Glass Bead Valves. (NOT Stems).

Remove Parts From Tumbler, Rinse & Dry, Box & Labeled.

Polish Valve Stems, And Valve Heads If Nec.

Remove Heads From Tank.  Scrub, Rinse, Blow Dry.

Glass Bead Heads (If Applicable). Over Head Cam Applications Do Not Get Glass Beaded.

Blow Heads Out With Air To Remove Beads. Especially Water Jackets & Bolt Holes.

Check Valve Guide Wear. (For Estimate)

Check Flatness Of Heads. (For Estimate)

Check / Tap Bolt Holes To Clean & Check Threads.

Cut Valve Job.                             

Face & Tip Valves.                              

Cut Valve Seats With 3 Angle, 5 Angle, or Radius Cutters.

Lap Valves To Seats, and Vacuum Test To Ensure a Perfect Seal.

Also Back Cut Valves For The Performance Valve Job.

Final Clean & Assemble.

Clean & Tap Bolt Holes To Clean Out Threads. (Yes, again)

Final Clean Heads In Parts Solvents. (By Hand).

Hand Rinse Heads With Hi-Pressure Hot Water.

Check Each Installed Height For All Springs.

Shim As Nec. To Get Spring Pressures Required.

Assemble With Parts Provided, Or With Parts Purchased For The Application.

Some Places may be able to do a "Cheap Valve Job" in an hour or two. But I think you can see from this list,... there is a lot more involved in making sure that it's done RIGHT!
